Raghunathan surprises with top time
Blue skies, warm sunshine and temperatures up to 30 degrees Celsius. Conditions for FP1 at the BOSS GP event at the Automotodrom Brno could not have been any better
In the FORMULA Class Indian Mahaveer Raghunathan surprised everyone by setting the quickest lap time in his Lola B05/52 in 1:47;702 minutes. However, his time was set on brand-new Avon tires, while the rest of the field was using scrubbed tires. Behind Rahunathan, Monza winner Chris Höher placed ahead of Mangini Motorsport driver Salvatore de Plano.
Local heroine Veronika Cicha was delighted to have finished a trouble-free session saying: ‘It’s great fun out there, but the heat is quite tough. Our car is great, but we are battling with a bit of oversteer”. Höher has suffered from the same problem adding: “We already had those troubles yesterday. Regardless, the track is fantastic, running smoothly. Brno is great!”
In the OPEN Class, matters remained unaffected, as Austrian Ingo Gerstl continued to dominate. He outpaced fellow-countryman Peter Milavec and Frits van Eerd – this time in a Benetton – by posting a 1:42;614 minutes lap. ”We are using the Benettons this weekend, because the characteristics of the track suit these cars better. We are all set and aiming for podiums”, Eerd said.
Following his heavy shunt at Monza also Wolfgang Jordan is back in action and feistier than ever. “When you are back in the car, the past is forgotten and all you want to do is race as fast as you can. We have to do some more work on car and setup, but we will be ready.”
