The BOSS GP racing weekend in Assen was packed with wheel-to-wheel battles, high speed overtaking, crashes, Safety Car phases and two shining winners

Even more so, as local hero Zwart crashed while overtaking backmarker Karl-Heinz Becker in the final lap and had to retire the car missing the points. “That’s really annoying”, the Dutchman thundered.

Peter Milavec and Hans Laub capitalised on Zwart’s mishap and returned to the podium after a long dry spell. “If you hang in there, you will be rewarded eventually. I saw Klaas’ car stranded and brought the podium home. It’s a great feeling to be back up here. I will try taking the momentum to our next stop in Brno”, Milavec was delighted.

“It’s amazing to be back on the podium. I have been focusing on my run and was able to avoid all trouble. My car was also good today”, Laub added.

Hauser continues to dominate

Also in the FORMULA Class the winner was the same as on the previous day – too dominant was the display of Gary Hauser. The Luxemburg-born driver crossed the line in second overall, only defeated by Gerstl, clearly outpacing the rest of his category’s competitors. “Two races, two wins. There’s no more I could ask for”, Hauser brimmed with joy.

FORMULA standings leader Christopher Brenier (Easy Formula Team) was again the runner-up, but saw his points lead reduced by Hauser’s fourth triumph. P3 went to Mexican Luis Michael Dorrbecker like on Saturday. “I am happy to be on the podium once more. That’s the maximum with our car.”

Today’s biggest mover was Christof von Grünigen (Zele Racing). The Swiss was on P2 in his class on Saturday, when his clutch basket exploded. Hence, he had to start from the back of the grid on Sunday, but yet managed to finish in the Top 5. However, a 10 second penalty for illegal overtaking in the Safety-Car phase downgraded him to P7.

Superstar Hakkinen impressed

A particular highlight for all winning drivers was receiving the trophies from F1 double world champion Mika Hakkinen. “That was my first BOSS GP race today, but it was a lot of fun. It was great to hear the old sound again, the sound that was part of my life for so long.”

“Maybe I will come back next year, but maybe I should be on the grid”, the Finn said with a twinkle in his eye.
