Report Rennen 1 Spielberg

Abtrocknende Strecke stellte Teams und Fahrer beim ersten Rennen des Wochenendes vor schwierige Entscheidungen: Gerstl erkämpft sich Sieg, Ghiotto triumphiert in der FORMULA-Klasse.

Der Wettergott hatte ein einsehen, es regnete vor Beginn des Rennens nicht mehr. Die Strecke trocknete so immer mehr ab. Die Teams stellte dies jedoch vor schwierige Aufgaben. Viele Stellen auf der Strecke waren bereits trocken, wenige noch nass. Das Feld war in der Reifenwahl zwischen Pirelli P-Zero (Slick) und Cinturato (Regen) gespalten. Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) zog, wie viele seiner Konkurrenten im Vorderfeld, die Slicks auf. Eine Entscheidung, die sich als Goldrichtig herausstellen sollte. Da kein weiterer Regen mehr einsetzte, waren Piloten mit Regenreifen auf verlorenem Posten.

An der Spitze konnte sich Gerstl nicht absetzen, Stratford (USA, Penn Elcom Racing) und Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) verfolgten den Führenden wie einen Schatten. Eine wirkliche Überholmöglichkeit ergab sich im Laufe des Rennens jedoch nicht. Der Sensationsmann aus dem Qualifying, Harald Schlegelmilch (LVA, HS Engineering), konnte das Anfangstempo nicht mitgehen und fiel auf Gesamtplatz 4 zurück.

Riccardo Ponzio (ITA, Adriatica Competition) im Jaguar R3 konnte sich nach seinem Dreher in der Qualifikation rehabilitierten. Er fuhr teilweise die schnellsten Runden auf der Strecke und beendete das Rennen auf Platz 6 gesamt und Rang 3 in der OPEN. Ganz vorne sicherte sich Gerstl mit sechs Zehntel Vorsprung den Sieg vor Rückkehrer Stratford, der nach einem Jahr Zwangspause wieder aufs Treppechen steigen durfte. Ghiotto komplettierte das Podium und war zudem der klare Sieger in der FORMULA-Klasse. Schlegelmilch und Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International) komplettierten das Treppchen.

Für die Piloten gab es nach dem Rennen noch eine Überraschung: Es wurde die Gesamt-Siegerehrung der Meisterschaft aus dem Jahr 2020 vollführt. Für alle Piloten heißt es nun noch einmal fokussieren, um 15:55 Uhr Ortszeit startet das zweite Rennen des Wochenendes.

Report: Race 1 Imola

Alessandro Bracalente reduces the gap to championship leader Ghiotto by winning his 4th race of the year.

Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center) drove unchallenged to his fourth victory of the season in the FORMULA class. The BOSS GP rookie thus reduced the gap to Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) in the points standings from 15 to only 12 points. Now it is clear that the championship will be decided in the last race on Sunday. Ghiotto followed Bracalente throughout the race like a shadow. Only at the end of the race he lost the connection to Bracalente and the gap grow to an high of four seconds at the finish line.

Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International) showed an incredible pace at the finish. At the beginning of the race he dropped back to 9th place, but on the last lap he made it onto the podium. For Martucci it is his fifth visit on the podium in 2019. In a courageous last lap manoeuvre, he overtook Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Top Speed), who seems to have bad luck on his racing boots. For de Plano it was nevertheless the second-best result of the season and the highest finish since the Hockenheim season opener.

Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) was also involved in the fight for the podium at the opening stage of the race. In the end he finished fifth. He scored five championship points more than Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center), who finished seventh. Tomorrow Haezebrouck and Fiedler will fight for third place in the FORMULA ranking.

Marc Faggionato (MCO, Zig-Zag) could not set any time in qualifying because his car had not been repaired in time. That didn’t stop him from moving up to 6th place from last position on the grid. For several laps he battled with Haezebrouck for position.

Walter Steding (DEU, Inter Europol) was surprisingly in the top 6 at the beginning of the race, ahead of Martucci and Haezebrouck. With rank 8, he finished in good midfield this time.

Nicolas Matile (MCO, Zig-Zag) finished 9th with the only Auto GP Lola in the field. Peter Göllner won the internal team duel between him and Christian Eicke (both SUI, Speed Center).

Gianluca Ripoli (ITA, MM International) and Ulf Ehninger (DEU, ESBA Racing) had to retire early in the race. Because Ripoli stopped at the warm-up lap, he had to start at the back of the grid at the Indy start. He tried to improve his position in the first lap and collided with Ehninger’s Benetton in the Tosa hairpin.

The overall victory was again secured by Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed). Not surprisingly, the already crowned OPEN champion in his Toro Rosso dominated the eleventh race of the season.

The 12th and last race of the BOSS GP anniversary season will take place tomorrow Sunday at 2:10 p.m., before that at 10:30 a.m. is BOSS GP’s warm-up session.

Ingo Gerstl celebrates his victory in race 1 in Brno 2019

Ingo Gerstl secures the title with his seventh win of the season.

It wasn’t a surprise anymore: Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) won the first race of the BOSS GP this weekend and finally fixed his fifth BOSS GP title in the highest category.

From a sporting point of view, the FORMULA category is more valuable at the moment, which has become even more acute after the first race of the day: The victory went to guest starter Christopher Höher (AUT, Top Speed), who was already the fastest Formula 2 driver in qualifying. For Höher it was an emotionally important victory, he drives in memory of his recently deceased father.

Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) drove an important race: He crossed the finish line behind Höher without a single mistake, ahead of championship leader and main rival Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center). Ghiotto thus reduced the gap in the overall standings to Bracalente, who benefited from a penalty for Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center). The fast Frenchman finished third, but this time it wasn’t going to be the desired podium: The race commissioners sanctioned an overtaking manoeuvre under Full Course Yellow with a 30-sec-penalty.

Andreas Fiedler (AUT, Fiedler Racing) finished fourth ahead of Haezebrouck, Florian Schnitzenbaumer (DEU, Top Speed) lost a few places and crossed the line on sixth place.

The most exciting duels were delivered by the fighting group with Nicolas Matile (MCO, Zig-Zag), Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International) and Gianluca Ripoli (ITA, MM International). Because Matiles Auto GP Lola stopped at the start, he had to line up at the back of the grid for the flying start. In the end he beat Martucci and Ripoli with some strong manoeuvres and finished seventh in the FORMULA class.

Walter Steding (DEU, Inter Europol) stayed in front of Christian Eicke (SUI, Speed Center), who came closer towards the end, but did not manage to pass his rival. Thomas Jakoubek (AUT, Top Speed) finished on 12th place after a pit stop.

Heavy rain prevented a race on Saturday afternoon. The organizers decided to start both races on Sunday. Although it rained also today, there was much less standing water on the track. At first the race started behind the safety car, after two laps the pace car drove to the pits. The only incident tricky conditions during the race was a spin by last year’s winner Marc Faggionato (MCO, Zig-Zag).

Action-packed 7th season race of the BOSS GP 2019 at the TT Circuit.

Let’s start with the sensation of today’s race day: Gianluca Ripoli (ITA, MM International) surprisingly wins for the very first time a race in BOSS GP. Already in the qualifying a surprise was on the horizon, with class rank 4 he achieved his best qualifying result so far. In the race, unlike his immediate opponents, he remained free of mistakes and benefited from a 10-second penalty for Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center), who had led most of the race.

After the first start was aborted (a driver spun in the warm-up lap) the field was forced to stop on the start-finish straight. At the restart, not all engines started in time, so the crews were working on it even after the 30-second signal – which is not allowed according to the regulations. Bracalents got – like some of the other drivers – a time penalty added to the result.

Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) took the lead in the FORMULA class after a good start of the race. Still in the first half pole setter Bracalente passed Ghiotto again. The subsequent duel between the two title favourites was a short one, however, as Ghiotto made a rare mistake and spun off the track. Ripoli finally won ahead of Bracalente and Armando Mangini (ITA, MM International). Mangini did it as so often, kept a cool head and crossed the finish line without any major troubles. This brings the veteran 3th place in the FORMULA ranking.

Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center) and Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International) dropped from the podium due to penalties after a strong race. Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) was within reach of the FORMULA podium for a long time, but in the final phase he suddenly lost a lot of speed and thus some positions (7th place).

OPEN podium in Race 1 at Assen: f.l. „Piter“, Gerstl and Laub

In the OPEN class for Formula 1 cars Ingo Gerstl controlled the race from lap 1 onwards in his Toro Rosso STR1 and extended the overall lead with his fifth victory of the season. Hans Laub (DEU, Speed Center) finished second in the Forti FG03. The driver and mechanic in one person skipped qualifying in the morning and started a great race to catch up from the last grid position and overtook numerous FORMULA racers in the race. „Piter“ (FRA, Ray-Ban) was happy about another trophy in his collection with 3rd place.

Tomorrow will be the 8th race of the season. At 9:45 a.m. the Big Open Single Seater line-up for a ten-minute warm-up session. The race itself starts at 11:50 a.m., directly before the DTM’s main race.

Debut victory for Alessandro Bracalente at the Pirelli Masters.

Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center) is the glowing winner of the first of two races this weekend. The rookie wins a BOSS Grand Prix for the first time at only his third start. The 30-year-old was on his unbeatable way right from the start. As the first pursuer of the long-time leader Phil Stratford (USA, Penn Elcom) he took the lead when Stratford slowed down with gearbox problems.

Stratford finished fifth overall and won the OPEN class. Ulf Ehninger (DEU, ESBA Racing) was allowed on the OPEN podium for the very first time. For Ehninger it was the first BOSS GP race. With an overall 9th place he was right in the middle of the action and visibly happy about his success. So it was a double victory for the 1997 Benetton’s.

OPEN championship leader Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) started a brilliant race to catch up from last place. But even the fastest race lap didn’t help at the end: After eight laps and just when Gerstl catched leader Stratford, his race ended with a technical problem.

Back to FORMULA: Sergio Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) finished second, Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International) third. Remarkable: With Bracalente, Ghiotto and Martucci were three Italians on the podium.

Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) finished fourth, even though Marco was involved in a collision with Florian Schnitzenbaumer (DEU, Top Speed) at the start. Schnitzenbaumer had to retire just at the scene of the accident.

Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Inter Europol) was fifth in his class and thus delivered his best performance of the season. Behind him a duel between Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Top Speed) and Gianluca Ripoli (ITA, MM International) was raging for a long time. De Plano beat Ripoli in the end.

Peter Göllner (SUI, Speed Center) finished eighth in the FORMULA. The Swiss started from the penultimate row and made up many places with clever manoeuvres, especially in the early stage of the race. Thomas Jakoubek (AUT, Top Speed) overtook Walter Steding (DEU, Inter Europol) in the last lap, who was in the top-10 for a long time.

Unfortunately, fifth place on the grid remained empty, Andreas Fiedler could not even start the race.

Tomorrow will be the fourth BOSS GP race of the season, starting time is 15:45. Before that there will be a ten-minute warm-up at 10 am.

Ingo Gerstl sets lap record and wins for the seventh time this season. Andreas Fiedler wins the FORMULA classification for the first time and makes up ground in the championship.

GAMMA Racing Day attracted tens of thousands of spectators to the beautiful race track in Assen on the first day of racing. The highlight for many of them have been the races of the BOSS GP for years. So probably also this year, because the grandstands were well filled just in time for the first race at 4:30 pm – with light wind and cloudy sky (22 degrees outside temperature).

It had already been promised in qualifying, and Ingo Gerstl (Top Speed) made it official in the race: The Austrian not only won the race and the OPEN class for the seventh time this season, but also set a new lap record at the TT Circuit Assen with 1:18,298 min. After Gerstl had already driven the fastest lap ever in qualifying (1:17,157), the record only became official in the race. Gerstl’s old record was 1:19,371 from 2016.

Phil Stratford (Penn Elcom Racing) finished second behind Ingo Gerstl. The US-American complained about wearing down tyres on his Benetton B197, but was never pressed by the pursuers – all in all a problem-free race.

Unlike Wolfgang Jaksch (F Xtreme Racing), who had his hands full throughout the race. With Andreas Fiedler, Wolfgang Jaksch and partner Veronika Cicha as well as Peter Göllner and towards the end of the race Roy Glaser formed an exciting fighting group. Jaksch was not only involved in all kinds of action, but also drifted in Fast and Furious style in the Super Aguri in the first lap to stay on track. Despite all the chaos, he became third overall.

Even before the start of the race there was an accident: Florian Schnitzenbaumer (Top Speed) spun so hard into the barriers during the tyre warm-up that the broken car had to be lifted. The German could leave the car on his own, but lost valuable points in the championship. In return Andreas Fiedler (Fiedler Racing) made a considerable leap forward. After the injury-related non start at Hockenheim in July, he won the FORMULA class at the comeback. Now he is only 14 points behind Schnitzenbaumer.

Veronika Cicha (H&A Racing) climbed the podium with Fiedler. The Czech was on the podium for the first time this year. A flawless race enabled her, as did Peter Göllner (Speed Center), to take a champagne shower. Göllner started after a practice accident in the spare car, and had to get used to the circumstances.

The fastest lap of the FORMULA drivers went to Roy Glaser (Speed Center), but the Swiss pole setter can’t buy anything for that. Glaser spun at the restart of the race, and was left behind by the rest of the field. After a furious chase to catch up, Glaser exaggerated his attempt to attack third-placed Jaksch. A shame: A spin ended his race shortly before the end.

Christian Eicke (Speed Center) started from the pits, he became inconspicuous seventh. Walter Steding (Inter Europol Competition), who couldn’t get away at the restart, should also be unhappy. He also chased the field with a delay. Too bad, because the German had shown a good pace so far this weekend.

2nd OPEN Phil Stratford (USA, Penn Elcom Racing): „The race was difficult because the track is so demanding. I’ve never been here before, six laps in practice and then right into qualifying. I’m certainly not at the limit yet.“

Ingo Gerstl fährt mit Rundenrekord zum siebenten Saisonsieg. Andreas Fiedler gewinnt zum ersten Mal die FORMULA-Wertung und macht in der Meisterschaft Boden gut.

Der GAMMA Racing Day lockte schon am ersten Renntag Zehntausende Zuschauer auf die wunderschöne Rennanlage nach Assen. Das Highlight für viele von ihnen sind seit Jahren die Rennen der BOSS GP. So wohl auch heuer, denn die Tribünen waren pünktlich zum ersten Rennen um 16:30 Uhr – bei leichtem Wind und bewölktem Himmel (22 Grad Außentemperatur) – gut gefüllt.

Schon im Qualifying hatte es sich angekündigt, im Rennen machte Ingo Gerstl (Top Speed) es offiziell: Der Österreicher gewann nicht nur zum siebenten Mal in dieser Saison ein Rennen und die OPEN-Klasse, sondern fuhr mit 1:18.298 min auch einen neuen Rundenrekord auf dem TT Circuit von Assen. Nachdem Gerstl schon im Qualifying die überhaupt schnellste Runde (1:17.157) gefahren war, wurde der Rekord erst im Rennen offiziell. Der alte Rekord von Gerstl lag bei 1:19.371 aus dem Jahr 2016.

Phil Stratford (Penn Elcom Racing) wurde hinter Ingo Gerstl Zweiter. Der US-Amerikaner klagte zwar über abbauende Reifen an seinem Benetton B197, wurde aber von den Verfolgern nie bedrängt – alles in allem ein problemloses Rennen.

Im Unterschied zu Wolfgang Jaksch (F Xtreme Racing), der das ganze Rennen über alle Hände voll zu tun hatte. Mit Andreas Fiedler, Wolfgang Jaksch und Lebensgefährtin Veronika Cicha sowie Peter Göllner und gegen Rennende auch noch Roy Glaser bildete sich eine spannende Kampfgruppe. Jaksch war nicht nur an allerhand Aktion beteiligt, sondern legte im Super Aguri in der ersten Rennrunde einen sehenswerten Drift hin, um auf der Strecke zu bleiben. Trotz all dem Chaos wurde er Gesamt-Dritter.

Schon vor dem Rennstart kam es zu einem Unfall: Florian Schnitzenbaumer (Top Speed) drehte sich beim Reifenaufwärmen derart heftig in die Reifenstapel, dass das kaputte Auto geborgen werden musste. Der Deutsche konnte das Auto aus eigener Kraft verlassen, verlor aber wertvolle Punkte in der Meisterschaft. Dafür machte Rückkehrer Andreas Fiedler (Fiedler Racing) einen gehörigen Sprung nach vorne. Nach dem verletzungsbedingten Nichtstart in Hockenheim im Juli, gewann er beim Comeback die Klasse FORMULA. Jetzt liegt er nur mehr 14 Punkte hinter Schnitzenbaumer.

Mit Fiedler aufs Stockerl kletterte Veronika Cicha (H&A Racing). Die Tschechin stand damit zum ersten Mal in diesem Jahr auf dem Podest. Ein fehlerfreies Rennen ermöglichte ihr, ebenso wie Peter Göllner (Speed Center), die Champagnerdusche. Göllner startete nach einem Trainingsunfall im Ersatzauto, und musste sich erst einmal an die Umstände gewöhnen – Chapeau vor dieser Leistung.

Die überlegen schnellste Runde bei den FORMULA-Fahrern ging an Roy Glaser (Speed Center), doch dafür kann sich der Schweizer Polesetter nichts kaufen. Glaser drehte sich beim Neustart des Rennens, und wurde erst einmal vom restlichen Feld abgehängt. Nach einer furiosen Aufholjagd übertrieb es Glaser beim Versuch, den Drittplatzierten Jaksch anzugreifen. Bitter: Ein Dreher beendete sein Rennen kurz vor Schluss.

Christian Eicke (Speed Center) startete aus der Box, er wurde unauffälliger Siebenter. Ebenfalls unglücklich dürfte Walter Steding (Inter Europol Competition) sein, der beim Neustart nicht wegkam. Auch er hetzte erst verspätet dem Feld hinterher. Schade, denn der Deutsche hatte bis dato eine gute Pace an diesem Wochenende gezeigt.

FORMULA-Sieger Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing): „Mein Mechaniker meinte, am Anfang soll ich langsamer machen, und erst am Ende pushen – aber das ging dann nicht mehr so. Ich war mir fast sicher, dass Roy noch einen Fehler macht, der wollte unbedingt den Jaksch noch kriegen. Ich wollte bloß keinen Fehler machen, die Punkte mit heimnehmen. Ich hatte die ganze Zeit die Meisterschaft im Kopf.“

Zweiter OPEN Phil Stratford (USA, Penn Elcom Racing): „Das Rennen war schwierig, weil die Strecke so fordernd ist. Ich war zuvor noch nie hier, sechs Runden im Training und dann gleich ins Qualifiying. Ich bin sicher noch nicht am Limit angelangt.“

Zweiter FORMULA Peter Göllner (SUI, Speed Center): „Eine Sensation! Dieses Podium war nach dem Unfall am Vormittag teuer erkauft.“

Start for Race 1 in Red Bull Ring

Ingo Gerstl (Top Speed) slowed down the first laps like at Hockenheim, followed the Austrian Phil Stratford (Penn Elcom Racing) in the Benetton B197 until lap 10, then Gerstl geared up and showed with 1:13.4 min what is possible with used tyres and not completely empty tank.

Gerstl, the only opponent in the OPEN, Stratford, rolled out with a gearbox failure three laps before the end. The FORMULA winner, Johann Ledermair (Ledermair Motorsport), was in 2nd place overall. The Tyrolean drove safely to victory in his comeback drive. Florian Schnitzenbaumer (Top Speed), who had electronic problems with his crew before the race, finished second and extended his overall lead in the FORMULA class.

Bianca Steiner (Top Speed) clinched her first podium, following on from her good results at Hockenheim. For laps she duelled with Peter Göllner, who had a good race speed. The Speed Center driver ran off the track to the middle of the race shortly after Steiner passed him. Best driver of the Swiss team was Christian Eicke in 6th place, seventh was Thomas Jakoubek (Top Speed).

Andreas Fiedler finished fifth, although the race did not start to his liking. After a spin in the second lap he had to follow the field. Among other things, he benefited from the technically-related defaults of Walter Steding, Hans Laub and Karl-Heinz Becker. Already in the second lap the race for Armando Mangini was over, his Dallara GP2 rolled out.

Race 2 will take place tomorrow Sunday at 10:40 a.m., then 25 minutes of racing action are on the schedule.

Ingo Gerstl: „The competition wasn’t the burner, but I always have fun when I drive. Qualifying, with 1:10, was my highlight of the weekend.“

Bianca Steiner: „I didn’t expect to get on the podium here. The start was not so good. I had to stay behind Phil Stratford, then I lost a few places in the first corner. I didn’t know I was third, but now I’m even happier.“

Johann Ledermair: „That was a pleasant race, the competition was already missing at the start or retired later. I hope I can be compete for the rest of the year.“
