BOSS GP race calendar 2019

Six race weekends are on the schedule of Europe’s fastest racing series in the coming season. At Assen, BOSS GP will support the DTM, at the finale the series will return to Imola.

The 25th season of the BOSS GP starts with the Jim Clark Revival in the Hockenheim Motodrom. The event from 26 to 28 April is devoted to the Formula 1 legend who died in an accident at Hockenheim. The event is one of the most important classic racing events in Europe, and in 2019 the BOSS GP will once again be the main event of this highlight.

On the second race weekend from 23 to 25 May, the BOSS GP will be making a guest appearance in the new home of the racing series. At the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the Big Open Single Seaters will share the program with the KTM X-Bow Battle for the first time. The sports car racing series is one of the strongest one-make championships in the world. The event at Spielberg takes place from Thursday to Saturday.

In June (Update: 14–16 instead of 21–23) the first of two Italian appearances of the BOSS GP 2019 will take place at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. On Italy’s fastest motorway, the adrenaline level will rise as always, because besides skill, the drivers will also need a lot of courage.

Another highlight in the 2019 calendar is the popular event in Assen (Netherlands). Instead of the Gamma Race Days, this time the BOSS GP will be part of the DTM programme (19 to 21 July). Last year, BOSS GP and the German premium touring car series had already contested the event together in Spielberg, and now the partnership is being extended.

From September 6th to 8th, the BOSS GP will once again attend the Masaryk Racing Days in Brno. The Czech racetrack attracts with a roller coaster that is well appreciated by the drivers. The most exciting races of 2018 took place here.

The BOSS GP will return to Italy for the final round of 2019 and to Imola after a one-year break. The races will take place on the former Formula 1 track from 11 to 13 October.

In the calendar planning, particular importance was attached to extending the intervals between the individual events and dividing the races into seven months. There will be a summer break in August.

As usual, every race weekend will have two races of 20-25 minutes each, in addition to training and qualifying. The exact schedules will be published at www.bossgp.com before the races.

Sechs Rennwochenenden stehen in der kommenden Rennsaison am Terminplan von Europas schnellster Rennserie. In Assen fährt BOSS GP mit der DTM, zum Finale kehrt die Serie nach Imola zurück.

Die 25. Saison der BOSS GP startet traditionell mit dem Jim Clark Revival im Motodrom von Hockenheim. Die Veranstaltung vom 26. bis 28. April ist der in Hockenheim verunglückten Formel-1-Legende gewidmet. Die Veranstaltung zählt zu den bedeutendsten Classic-Racing-Events Europas, auch 2019 ist die BOSS GP wieder Hauptprogrammpunkt dieses Highlights.

Am zweiten Rennwochenende vom 23. bis 25. Mai gastiert die BOSS GP in der neuen Heimat der Rennserie. Beim Rennen am Red Bull Ring in Österreich teilen sich die Big Open Single Seater erstmals das Programm mit dem KTM X-Bow Battle. Die Sportwagen-Rennserie ist einer der stärksten Markenpokale der Welt. Das Event am Spielberg findet von Donnerstag bis Samstag statt.

Im Juni (Update: 14.–16. anstatt 21.–23.) geht’s zum ersten von zwei Italien-Auftritten der BOSS GP ins Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Auf der schnellsten Autobahn Italiens steigt wie immer der Adrenalinspiegel, denn neben Können ist auch ordentlich Mut der Fahrer gefragt.

Ein weiterer Fixpunkt im Kalender 2019 ist das beliebte Event in Assen (Niederlande). Statt bei den Gamma Race Days ist die BOSS GP dieses Mal im Programm der DTM (19. bis 21. Juli) dabei, die dort zum überhaupt ersten Mal gastiert. Schon im vergangenen Jahr waren BOSS GP und die deutsche Premium-Tourenwagenserie in Spielberg gemeinsam angetreten, nun geht die Partnerschaft in eine Verlängerung.

Vom 6. bis 8. September verschlägt es die BOSS GP abermals zu den Masaryk Racing Days nach Brünn. Die tschechische Rennstrecke lockt mit einer Achterbahn, die bei den Fahrern gut ankommt. Die spannendsten Rennen 2018 fanden hier statt.

Zum Finale kehrt die BOSS GP nach Italien und nach einem Jahr Pause wieder nach Imola zurück. Auf der ehemaligen Formel-1-Bahn wird vom 11. bis 13. Oktober um die Wette gefahren. Am Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari fällt dann auch spätestens die Titelentscheidung der BOSS GP 2019.

Besonderen Wert wurde in der Kalenderplanung darauf gelegt, die Abstände zwischen den einzelnen Veranstaltungen zu verlängern und die Rennen auf sieben Monate aufzuteilen. Im August gibt es eine Sommerpause.

Wie gewohnt gibt‘s an jedem Rennwochenende neben Training und Qualifying zwei Rennläufe zu je 20–25 Minuten. Die genauen Zeitpläne werden zeitnah zu den Rennen auf www.bossgp.com veröffentlicht.

Ingo Gerstl with record lap on pole position, Ledermair on FORMULA pole

Not surprisingly Ingo Gerstl (Top Speed) set the fastest time in the second qualifying of this year. With 1:10,665 min the Toro Rosso pilot set a new BOSS GP lap record. The only downer for Gerstl: The declared goal of beating the sound barrier of 1:10 min was not achieved. Second place went to Phil Stratford (Penn Elcom Racing), who kept the GP2 armada behind him in his 1997-Benetton.

An Austrian was also the fastest pilot in the second class: Johann Ledermair (Ledermair Motorsport) picked up where he left off last year: At his comeback this afternoon (start: 3:05 p.m.) he starts from position 3 and thus has the best starting position with the FORMULA racing cars. With Ledermair in the second row, Reinhard Kofler (Top Speed) surpassed his expectations at his first appearance in the GP2 car.

Eight cars entered Qualifying 2, a seperated session for yesterday’s slower drivers. Fastest was Florian Schnitzenbaumer (Top Speed). The FORMULA leader placed 5th overall, knocking out Armando Mangini (MM International), who was in the first qualifying group.

Bianca Steiner and Andreas Fiedler fought for 7th place overall for the whole 20 minutes. Only six thousandths of a second (!) separate Fiedler (7.) and Steiner (8.). The situation between Peter Göllner and Christian Eicke was similarly close. Walter Steding (Inter Europol Competition) starts in the first race from 11, Thomas Jakoubek from 12, Karl-Heinz Becker (Becker Motorsport) had technical problems again, the German only completed three laps, he starts from 14th place.

Ingo Gerstl sets a new BOSS GP record, even with traffic during his fastest laps

Ingo Gerstl set a new BOSS GP lap record in the first free practice session at the Red Bull Ring: In 1:11,292 min the man from Salzburg completed the 4.2-kilometer long mountain and valley track. Fastest FORMULA pilot was Johann Ledermair. Sports car specialist Reinhard Kofler (Top Speed) was runner-up in his first outing in a GP2.

With an outside temperature of 18 degrees and sunshine the first official session started at 9:30 am. Already after two minutes the first car was out: Armando Mangini (MM International) spun at the exit from the pit lane. The Italian lost control on cold tyres, but he didn’t hit anything. The safety team brought the car back into the pits and Mangini was able to continue the training session.

After the session restarts, all 12 drivers made their way onto the track. This did not stop Ingo Gerstl in his Toro Rosso from improving from 1:15 min in his first fast lap to 1:11.2 min in his fastest lap – this is a new BOSS GP lap record.

Top Speed team-mates Florian Schnitzenbaumer and Bianca Steiner tried to do some laps together. Ten minutes before the end of the session, Schnitzenbaumer blocked the rear wheels when braking to the second corner. His vehicle was pushed behind the barriers after the spin.

Reinhard Kofler proved his talent in his first ride

Reinhard Kofler, former European kart champion and Formula Renault racer, made his debut in Top Speed’s BWT car. The current KTM works driver in the GT4 European Series already gave a test of talent in his very first laps in a 600-hp GP2 car: With a 1:19.8 he was only 1.3 seconds behind Johann Ledermair (Ledermair Motorsport) in second place in the FORMULA classification. For the races we can expect a five-match between Ledermair, Schnitzenbaumer, Fiedler, Kofler and Mangini.

Another Top Speed driver, Thomas Jakoubek, was missing in the 1st free practice, he will only get into the car later.

In the lap back to the pits Peter Göllner (Speed Center) stopped his Dallara GP2, his car is back in the pits for repairing.

Ingo Gerstl setzte im ersten freien Training am Red Bull Ring einen neuen BOSS-GP-Rundenrekord: In 1:11.292 min umrundete der Salzburger die 4,2-Kilometer-lange Berg-und-Talbahn. Schnellster FORMULA-Pilot war Johann Ledermair. Bei seiner ersten Ausfahrt im GP2 war GT-Spezialist Reinhard Kofler (Top Speed) vorne mit dabei.

Bei 18 Grad Außentemperatur und Sonnenschein wurde die erste offizielle Session um 9:30 Uhr freigegeben. Bereits nach zwei Minuten stand der ersten Wagen im Aus: Armando Mangini (MM International) drehte sich bei der Ausfahrt aus der Boxengasse. Der Italiener verlor beim Reifenaufwärmen die Kontrolle über seinen Dallara-GP2. Er schlug aber nirgendwo ein, die Sicherheitsstaffel brachte den Wagen zurück an die Box, Mangini konnte die Trainingssession anschließend fortsetzen.

Johann Ledermair setzte die schnellste Zeit bei den FORMULA-Fahrzeugen

Nach dem Restart herrschte reger Betrieb auf der Strecke, alle 12 Fahrer begaben sich auf die Strecke. Das hielt Ingo Gerstl im Toro Rosso nicht davon ab, sich von 1:15 min in seiner ersten schnellen Runde bis auf 1:11.2 min zu verbessern – das ist neuer BOSS-GP-Rundenrekord.

Die Top-Speed-Teamkollegen Florian Schnitzenbaumer und Bianca Steiner versuchten einige Runden gemeinsam zu fahren. Zehn Minuten vor dem Ende der Session blockierte Schnitzenbaumer beim Anbremsen zur zweiten Kurve die Hinterräder. Sein Fahrzeug wurde nach dem Dreher hinter die Leitschienen geschoben.

Reinhard Kofler war beim Debüt auf Anhieb schnell

Reinhard Kofler, ehemaliger Kart-Europameister und Formel-Renault-Rennfahrer, gibt kurz entschlossen sein Debüt im BWT-Auto von Top Speed. Der derzeitige KTM-Werksfahrer in der GT4 European Series gab bereits in seinen allerersten Runden im 600-PS-starken GP2-Auto eine Talentprobe ab: Mit 1:19.8 lag er nur 1,3 Sekunden hinter Johann Ledermair (Ledermair Motorsport) auf Platz 2 der FORMULA-Wertung. Für die Rennen können wir einen Fünfkampf zwischen Ledermair, Schnitzenbaumer, Fiedler, Kofler und Mangini erwarten.

Ein weiterer Top-Speed-Fahrer, Thomas Jakoubek, fehlte im 1. Freien Training, er wird erst später ins Auto steigen.

In der Auslaufrunde stoppte Peter Göllner (Speed Center) seinen Dallara GP2. Sein Fahrzeug ist zur Reparatur mittlerweile zurück in der Box.
